Synopse
EXPERIMENTAL FILM In this meditative work, Tsai Ming-liang examines the Basque coastal town of Donostia/San Sebastián together with his leading actor. In carefully composed images, the film accompanies the movements with which protagonist Lee Kang-sheng, dressed in a Buddhist monk’s garb, paces the streets and squares, beach promenades and fields. Dust captures the people and the art of the place, from the architecture and the sculptures to the music scene. The sharp contrast between the central performance of Lee Kang-sheng and the documentary footage creates a profound reflection about film-making and the speed of life.
Regie
Tsai Ming-liang is an internationally celebrated Taiwanese film-maker. His film Vive l’Amour won the Golden Lion in 1994 at Venice, where his new film Dust had its premiere. The River won the Silver Bear for Best Direction in 1997 and in 2023 he was awarded the Prize for his life’s work in Locarno.
