Synopse
DOCUMENTARY Between tea houses and "digital spaces": cult director Monika Treut traces the spirit of resistance in the multi-layered society of Taiwan. While democracies are tottering in the crises of our time, the population of one pacific island calmly resilient. Together with former digital minister Audrey Tang, Monika Treut dives deep into the country’s activist scene. And ascertains: freedom is a mother for invention and bridges boundaries. A picture emerges of a society that sees democracy not as a fixed institution, but as a daily communal practice.

For 40 years, Monika Treut has been making subversive feature films and documentaries about queer cinema. In 2017, she was awarded the Special Teddy at the Berlinale for her life’s work.
