Synopse

In a film between social drama and magical realism, Andrea Arnold’s new film tells a deeply moving and poetic story about one girl’s search for understanding and guidance. Bird had its premiere in competition at Cannes in 2024. Bailey (Nykiya Adams) lives with her father Bug (Barry Keoghan) and her half-brother Hunter (Jason Buda) north of London. Bug is a loving father, but unpredictable and more interested in his own life than that of his children: he’s freshly engaged and trying to make money with a psychoactive toad secretion. Bailey also gets little solace from her mother and her violent boyfriend. As she roams the neighbourhood, she comes across Bird (Franz Rogowski), a gentle, mysterious man, walking through the fields in a pullover and a dress. He is looking for traces of his childhood and family. In a world where no-one is interested, Bird becomes a confidant for Bailey.

ANDREA ARNOLD (*1961 in England) studied Direction in Los Angeles and won an Oscar for her short Wasp (2003). Her debut feature Red Road (2006), Fish Tank (2009) and American Honey (2016) all won the Jury Prize in Cannes. Cow (2021) was also shown at FILMFEST HAMBURG.
