Synopse

Actress Brigitte (Jeanne Balibar) has been cast to play the lead in a biopic of the French chanson legend Barbara. She's prepared exhaustively for the role and learned to mimic the singer's gestures, looks and pronunciation perfectly. But the longer rehearsals go on, the more the character takes over the actress. The director Yves (Mathieu Amalric) is meanwhile working his way through mountains of archive material and recordings and allowing himself to be inspired by Barbara. Or is it more by Brigitte? Barbara is not just an affectionate, playful homage to the "dame en noir", but also to leading lady Jeanne Balibar.

Since the 1990s, MATHIEU AMALRIC (*1965) has been one of France's leading actors, but has always worked in parallel as a director. He was married to Jeanne Balibar for several years.
