Synopse
DOCUMENTARY India and Pakistan were created in 1947 in a complex context of ideological demarcation and age-old common roots. 70 years later, Pakistan is still struggling with feudal structures and religious fundamentalism, while in India radical Hindu nationalism has come to power under President Modi. Together with Indian actor Kalki Koechlin, director Sabiha Sumar travelled through both countries. The two combative friends meet religious zealots, complacent elites, assertive women and defenders of liberalism. Thus, a complex picture of two neighbouring states emerges, which are often more similar than they would appear to realize.
Regie
SABIHA SUMAR (*1961) studied film direction and political sciences in New York and Cambridge. Her debut feature Silent Waters won the Golden Leopard in Locarno in 2003.
