Synopse

In his new film, Nuri Bilge Ceylan once again journeys into the melancholy expanses of Anatolia and proves to be a superb portrait painter and poet of world cinema. For the last four years, Samet, a young art teacher from Istanbul, has been doing his compulsory service in a remote village in Anatolia. He performs his work diligently, but, despite an affair with a colleague (Merve Dizar), can’t wait to put the dreariness of the Turkish provinces behind him. After a series of incidents, Samet’s hopes are fading fast – and he starts showing signs of becoming a completely different person.

Regie

NURI BILGE CEYLAN (*1959 in Istanbul) is one of the most important voices in contemporary European cinema. For his epic film Winterschlaf, which like The Wild Pear Tree and others were shown at FILMFEST HAMBURG, he won the 2014 Golden Palm at Cannes. Merve Dizdar won the acting prize for her role in Auf trockenen Gräsern at Cannes.
