Story
Two precocious, film-obsessed boys set out for Mexico City to at last experience some adventures of their own and not just on the cinema screen. They are kidnapped by gangsters who then take them along with them on heists as mascots. For the boys, it’s like a dream come true – until the police get involved and force them to betray their kidnappers. So the real-life action film comes to an abrupt end, leaving only those on the silver screen. With its black humour, Matinée is reminiscent of Buñuel and also recalls the adventures stories of Robert Louis Stevenson and Mark Twain.
