Three films from the FILMFEST HAMBURG 2025 programme have been nominated for the 98th Academy Awards.

With four nominations each, the films Bugonia and The Secret Agent are in the running for the prestigious trophies. Last year’s Filmmaker in Focus, Kleber Mendonça Filho, is nominated in the categories Best Film, Best International Film and Best Casting, while lead actor Wagner Moura is also in the running for Best Actor.

Bugonia by director Yorgos Lanthimos is also nominated for Best Film, Emma Stone for Best Actress, Will Tracey for Best Adapted Screenplay and Jerskin Fendrix for Best Original Music.

Jafar Panahi’s A Simple Accident is nominated in the categories Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay.

The winners of the 98th Academy Awards will be announced on 15 March 2026 in Los Angeles.
