Synopse
Based on a true story, Radu Jude’s filmi tells of the demoralizing state propaganda and everyday surveillance of the Ceausescu regime. Romania, 1981. In the town of Botoşani, 16-year old Mugur Călinescu sprays anti-government graffiti on the walls. Shortly after, the teenager is arrested by the Securitate. The secret police‘s interrogations were documented and 30 years later used by director Gianina Cărbunariu for a piece of theatre. In Uppercase Print, Radu Jude interweaves the play’s production with archive footage from Romanian propaganda TV to form a nightmarish historical picture of shocking topicality.
