Synopse

Only in China are more people executed every year than in Iran. In four haunting episodes, Mohammad Rasoulof portrays people who are part of the killing machine. The flm won the Golden Bear in Berlin. They are exemplary husbands and fathers, young conscripts and soldiers – and executors of state-sanctioned murder in Iran. The press of a button suffices to take another person’s life. Their work is a heavy burden on the consciences and social relationships of Heshmat, Pouya, Javad and Bahram. But can they say No without themselves becoming victims of the machinery of oppression? There is No Evil asks whether there really is only the choice between resistance and survival.

Regie

MOHAMMAD RASOULOF (*1973) has already been a guest at FILMFEST HAMBURG several times, most recently in 2017 with A Man of Integrity. Rasoulof has been imprisoned many times for his criticism of the regime. None of his films have ever been officially shown in Iran.
