Synopse
A woman loses everything and leaves her old life behind. A fascinating road movie on the dark side of the American dream with Frances McDormand in the lead role. After the financial collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets out to lead the life of a modern nomad outside conventional society. Director Chloé Zhao’s third film shows the real-life travellers Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern‘s mentors and companions as she explores the wide expanses of the American West. Nomadland premiered in simultaneous showings at Venice and Toronto.
Regie
CHLOÉ ZHAO (*1982 in Peking) attended an English boarding school and studied political sciences in Massachusetts and film production at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York. FILMFEST HAMBURG showed her first two films Songs My Brothers Taught Me (2015) and The Rider (2017), which won the Art Cinema Award in Hamburg and Cannes.
