Synopse
Once again, Kelly Reichardt offers us her take on the Western and counterposes a sensitive story of male friendship with the mythology of violent settlement of the West. Oregon around 1820. Cookie, an unemployed cook, has joined a group of fur-trappers. Their coarsely brutal world is alien to shy Cookie and he is happy when he meets King-Lu – as a Chinese man also an outsider among outlaws, but a much cleverer businessman than Cookie. In a fort at the frontier, the pair build up a lucrative, if not risk-free business, at whose heart lies the first cow in Oregon.
