Synopse

HYBRID Nowhere in the world is rain forest being destroyed as radically as in Chaco, Paraguay. Marked by its magical realism, the film tells of an indigenous Ayoreo-Totobiegosode girl who is forced to leave her home. After her village is destroyed, Eami wanders through the forest one last time and plunges into a hypnotic soundscape. In her native tongue, she explains that she is the bird god, who records the history of her community and wants to retain a spiritual place which can neither be destroyed nor removed. »Remember everything,« says the lizard, who accompanies Eami on her journey. »Once we’ve gone, we can never return.«

PAZ ENCINA (*1971 in Paraguay) is one of the most interesting voices in contemporary Latin American cinema, her films have won many awards. Her film Hamaca Paraguaya (2006) was shown at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section and won the FIPRESCI prize. The film was also shown in the same year at FILMFEST HAMBURG. Eami was awarded the Tiger Award at the 2022 Rotterdam Film Festival.
