Synopse

A claustrophobic Kafkaesque drama portraying life in Iran. Ali is desperate: he lives in his sparse flat, cut off from the outside world. The only people who visit are the caretaker and state agents, who are keeping an eye on him. Ali is blind and everyday tasks are hard to manage. His situation changes overnight when Leila enters his flat via the fire escape. She’s on the run after taking part in a workers’ revolt that was brutally struck down. Ali gives her refuge. Gradually, the pair learn something rare in Iran: the ability to trust each other.

Regie

VAHID JALILVAND (*1976 in Iran) studied theatre direction in Tehran. In 1996 he began to work for Iranian TV, first as a journalist, later as a director. His last film No Date, No Signature was shown in 2017 at FILMFEST HAMBURG. Beyond the Wall is his third feature film.
