Synopse

HYBRID Alentejo between Tejo and the Algarve is the most sparsely inhabited region in Portugal: a kaleidoscopic portrait between fiction and reality, which captures both the imaginary and the lived history. The Alentejo region in Southern Portugal is expansive and full of tradition. But in contrast to cities, remembering past epochs is difficult due to the lack of monuments and public buildings. Over the course of a year, the film playfully tells the stories of the area. Reports from farm labourers and field notes from archaeologists are combined with home movie footage, scientific drawings, legends, poems and songs.

Regie

Born in France, MAUREEN FAZENDEIRO lives in Lisbon. She studied literature, art and film at the Denis Diderot University in Paris. Besides her own projects, she works with director Miguel Gomes as screenplay author and casting director.
