Synopse

A queer commune in a Western world of smoke and sweat: well received in Cannes, this prize-winning debut is an allegory between childish magic and real danger. 1982. 11-year old Lidia lives happily with her family in a desert mining town in Northern Chile. When an unknown, deadly disease breaks out, the rumour spreads that the infection can pass between two men via a simple glance – if they fall in love. When people start blaming her family for the outbreak and the counter-measures become ever more drastic, Lidia must find out if the rumour is true.

Regie

Born in Santiago, DIEGO CÉSPEDES studied film and TV at the Universidad de Chile. The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo is his first feature film and won the main prize in the section »Un Certain Regard« at Cannes.
