Synopse

A young Muslim woman caught between breaking taboos and loyalty to her family: a moving drama celebrated in Cannes as a new discovery in queer cinema. Non-professional actor Nadia Melliti won the Best Actor prize. 17-year old Fatima (Nadia Melliti) is the youngest of three daughters of a French-Algerian family. Although she has a steady boyfriend, Fatima feels increasingly attracted to women. When she goes to Paris to study, a completely new life begins. New friendships, the gay scene and a new, passionate relationship with a nurse, Ji-Na. Torn between her Moslem faith and her homosexuality, Fatima has to find her own way.

Regie

HAFSIA HERZI comes from an Algerian-Tunisian family and is an established figure in French cinema. She came to fame in 2007 with her performance in Couscous mit Fisch. Die jüngste Tochter is her fourth film as director.
