Synopse

DOCUMENTARY FILM Hildegard Knef was many things: actress, singer, author, social liberal role model, gay icon. On the 100th anniversary of her birth, this film looks back on the eventful life of this exceptional artist between Berlin and Hollywood. The biography of Hildegard Knef – born in Ulm in 1925, died in Berlin in 2002 – is a mirror for post-war and divided Germany. And for the liveliness, hypocrisy, and sensationalism of our society and the media that feeds it. The film features numerous original interviews with Knef, excerpts from feature films, concert recordings that testify to her stage presence, which is still incredible today, as well as TV reports from Berlin, New York, and elsewhere. In addition to Knef herself, friends and relatives, contemporary witnesses, colleagues, and journalists also have their say. These include Knef's daughter Christina Palastanga-Gardiner, her last husband Paul von Schell, taz journalist Jan Feddersen, Knef's long-time makeup artist René Koch, and chansonier Tim Fischer, who is currently on tour with her songs.

Regie

ANDRÉ SCHÄFER works as a director and producer and is the managing director of Florianfilm in Cologne and Eiderstedt. Since 2001, he has made numerous documentaries and reports for television, and since 2007, he has also made cinema documentaries, which have been shown at the Berlinale, in Locarno, at the Munich Film Festival, and at DOK Leipzig, among others.
