Synopse

The magic of one last summer: a drama that quietly observes how war and fear gradually seep into a family’s everyday life and characterize a child’s world. Russia 2004: 8-year old Katja is spending the summer at her grandparents’ in the country. Here, in the middle of nowhere, time seems to stand still. But the idyll is deceptive, because the grandparents’ marriage is falling apart and the war in nearby Chechenya is slowly beginning to affect Russian life. Over the summer lies a mixture of thirst for adventure, tenderness and underlying cruelty.
