Synopse

In the Northern Indian state of Sikkim, a many-layered intimate drama unfolds about simmering conflicts in the resistance to the patriarchal order. After quitting her job, Bishnu returns to her village in the Himalayas, where she is subjected to increasing family pressure and social expectation. The tension only increases when her pregnant sister arrives and there is suddenly the prospect of an arranged marriage with a »suitable« suitor. Bishnu has to decide whether to bow to tradition or assert her independence. With great sensitivity, the film portrays the complex relationships between three generations of women and their different ways of facing social ascriptions.
