Synopse

Rental Family tells the story of an American actor living in Tokyo (Brendan Fraser), who is searching for meaning in his life when he lands an unusual job: he is to take on various roles for a Japanese »rental family« agency, playing a son, husband or father. As he goes ever deeper into the family worlds of his clients and helps them to fill family gaps, he begins to build up real relationships which blur the borders between acting and reality. In dealing with the moral aspects of his job, he discovers anew a purpose in life, the feeling of belonging and the beauty of human relationships.

Regie

HIKARI grew up in Japan and went to the USA to study film and acting. Her feature film debut as director, 37 Seconds, won the Panorama Audience Prize at the Berlinale in 2019. She recently directed several episodes of the Netflix comedy Beef.
