Following its great success last year, the “Day of Free Entrance” at FILMFEST HAMBURG returns for a second round. On 3 October 2025, FILMFEST HAMBURG is treating all Hamburg residents to a free cinema experience.

To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to see their favourite films, tickets will be released for sale in stages: new tickets will be available on 11 September, 20 September and 1 October.

Why?

Diverse, accessible, unifying: 3 October is German Unity Day – and FILMFEST HAMBURG wants to celebrate, in Hamburg’s cinema seats. Side by side with long-time film lovers and cinema newbies alike.

What?

A diverse programme for Hamburg: On this special day, films will be shown that transport audiences to other worlds. Most of the films will feature German subtitles, and some will also be available in accessible formats.

Where?

All screenings that take place at the five festival cinemas – Abaton, CinemaxX Dammtor, Metropolis, Passage Kino, and Studio-Kino – are free of charge. This year, FILMFEST UMS ECK cinemas are also participating, with each offering one free screening. Important: A ticket is still required for each free screening.
