»Ich schau dir in die Augen, Kleines!« What is maybe the most famous line in the history of film is quite different in the original: »Here's looking at you, kid.« Is the translation allowed to be better than the original? Is dubbing treason? What else makes up translating for film? Subtitling, voiceover, screenplay translation? And what do film translators do? Do they supply only raw materials or are they creatively involved in the Gesamtkunstwerk
film? Specialists cast light into the darkness of the cinema. Using workshop reports and film excerpts, they illustrate what happens when the pictures remain the same, but the language changes.
With Andrea Kirchhartz (VdÜ) Film+Übersetzung and Ofir Raul Graizer, director (The Cakemaker).
The event is organized by the Untertitelforum in cooperation with FILMFEST HAMBURG.
