INDUSTRY PROGRAMME

7. September 2023

The FILMFEST HAMBURG INDUSTRY DAYS will start on 2 October with an extensive supporting programme for accredited trade visitors. Up until 6 October, current industry topics will be discussed with national and international speakers in keynotes, panels, workshops and closed formats and at the all-day EXPLORER CONFERENCE. Accreditation centre and meeting point for professionals and festival visitors is the MOIN FILMFEST CAFÉ at CinemaxX Dammtor in cooperation with MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein.

“We are looking forward to expanding our cooperations with the German film and television industry and to networking even more nationally and internationally,” says Faysal Omer, who will be responsible for the trade events section from this year. “The industry is in a state of upheaval and we want to open spaces for thought and discussion with our professional events.”

At the FILMFEST HAMBURG INDUSTRY DAYS accredited trade visitors can meet, exchange knowledge or network for future cooperations. In keynote speeches, panels, think tanks and workshops, national and international experts from the industry as well as filmmakers will inform about the latest developments and trends in the film industry. On 2 October, director Dominik Graf will introduce the first focal point as keynote speaker with a “jerk speech” for young German filmmakers. Other topics of the supporting programme are the portrayal of violence on FLINTA*, demands for a contemporary image of women in film and television, promotion of film material for female protagonists 60+, diversity & intersectionality, green producing as well as the topic of rights retention, which is important for independent producers. The venue is CinemaxX 3, Dammtorstraße 1, unless otherwise stated. The FILMFEST HAMBURG INDUSTRY DAYS are supported by the Studio Hamburg Group and Sound Chaussee SoundVision GmbH.

With FILMFEST HAMBURG #ATELIER23 the festival offers for the second time a creative working and dialogue space for film students from Germany with international debut filmmakers whose films are screened at FILMFEST HAMBURG. The exclusive screenings and subsequent moderated talks with filmmakers and/or producers of the films Àma Gloria, Power Alley  and The Rapture will take place over three days as part of FILMFEST HAMBURG INDUSTRY DAYS at Studio Funk’s Mischkino. The film students will also meet a delegate of the “Semaine de la Critique” from Cannes to talk about their work and demands and the chances and difficulties of making the step from film school into the A-festival world. FILMFEST HAMBURG #ATELIER 23 is supported by Studio Funk, Insitut Français, The Post Republic/Electric Sheep and this year also by MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein.

FILMFEST HAMBURG also offers a networking platform for the NORDIC PRODUCERS CLUB PLUS: 16 producers from Scandinavia meet German producers and decision-makers. The two-day programme offers practical case studies and workshops dealing with the most important legal and financial issues producers face in their daily work.

The FILMFEST HAMBURG INDUSTRY DAYS will close with the EXPLORER KONFERENZ, which will cover various topics related to producing for cinema and TV in different formats. In more than twelve programme slots, German and international speakers will provide insights into their work and strategies and impart future-oriented knowledge. In their contributions, the experts will shed light on current phenomena and developments in an industry undergoing radical change. Keynotes and case studies will deal with topics such as the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in creative work, the impact of diversity, new work or the 4-day week and podcasts as a test balloon and cross-utilisation. With “Highlight Sweden”, a European guest country will be the focus of the programme for the first time. Speakers from Sweden will travel to Hamburg with case studies, trend analyses and debate contributions. A delegation of Swedish conference participants is also expected. The Swedish Film Institute is the partner of this format. A special conference programme for young professionals is aimed exclusively at students who will be attending the conference as a delegation. The EXPLORER KONFERENZ will take place on 6 October on two stages at the Katholische Akademie Hamburg in cooperation with the Producers’ Association and MOIN Filmförderung. Participation in the EXPLORER KONFERENZ, produced by POISON,  is only possible with prior ticket booking. Additional partners are Letterbox Filmproduktion, UFA, EAVE, Future of Film and MTH Conference.
