Criminal psychologist Bach (Christoph Waltz) and state prosecutor Stein (Susanne Schäfer) reopen an old case, convinced that the sex murderer sentenced nine years ago is innocent. But in the village where another similar crime hassince taken place, they run up against a wall of silence. The local police inspector, Lorenz (Hermann Lause), is convinced the right man was sent to prison.
