A young woman is brutally murdered in the early hours of the morning in a street in Le Havre. Although it seems impossible, there are no witnesses, no-one admits to having seen or heard anything. Pierre also claims he was not at home that night, but was working in the harbour. His partner Louise returns from a business trip the next day and soon notices something wrong. It turns out that Pierre did hear and see something after all. And not just Pierre, but 37 other people too. Out of shame, he decides to confess - which causes trouble with the other witnesses.
