Australia in 1968: four young, talented Aborigine women are discovered by talent scout Dave Lovelace.  True to his motto "90% of all music is shit, the rest is soul", he forms the girl group into Australia's answer to the Supremes.  The Sapphires' first gig is for US troops in Vietnam.  A whole new world opens up for the girls: sex, war, politics and soul.  A heart-warming, witty biopic based on the eponymous musical and the stories told by the mother of screenwriter Tony Briggs, one of the original Sapphires!
