Stefan Kortmann (Benno Fürmann) is burdened with guilt: In the spring of 1988 as a soldier of the Volksarmee he shot and killed a young man who was trying to escape from the GDR with his pregnant wife. Despite having made a success of his life he is still being haunted by his deed 20 years later and feels the need to explain himself to the woman. Silke has settled at the Baltic coast with her daughter. They get to know each other and fall in love without her realizing that he is her husband‘s murderer. A calm, intense movie.
