In 1963, 11-year-old Alex is sent from the Greek mainland to a christening on the island of Crete, where he must stand in for his father as godfather and politician. Because he is so rhetorically skilled, he must pacify two feuding villages and win votes for his father’s party. His new friend Panos helps him understand the local mentality. The film is based on a biography by the son of former Greek premier Andrea Papandreou. A recurring theme is that of sons seeking their fathers’ recognition.
