Leningrad 1945: the siege is over, but the daily struggle for survival goes on. Iya, a tall, thin, young woman who suffers from autistic blackouts took care of her friend Masha’s son during the war – and then loses him in a tragic accident. When Masha returns to the ruined city, she has no time to deal with the loss properly, her hunger for a life and a future is too strong. She wants another child and, as she can no longer bear children, she asks Iya to help.
