DOCUMENTARY During his research of contemporary American life, master documentarist Frederick Wiseman spent time in the Mid-West – and illuminated an America far from the big cities. Monrovia, a small community with 1,400 inhabitants, in the vast expanses of the Mid-West. Farming is the key source of income, the shrinking community is a tight network of shared values and rituals. Frederick Wiseman spent nine weeks in Monrovia documenting everyday life with great openness and sensitivity. He gives the lie to some of the clichés of rural life and creates an understanding of the particular provincial heartbeat in a globalized world.
