Babylon Berlin is based on the series of best-selling books by Volker Kutscher which began with Der nasse Fisch and follow the investigations of Inspector Gereon Rath in 1920s Berlin: a curiosity cabinet of drugs and politics, art and murder, emancipation and extremism.
The young inspector Gereon Rath (Volker Bruch) is transferred from Cologne to Berlin to solve a case in the nightclub scene run by the local Mafia. What at first glance seems to be a simple case of blackmail turns out to be a scandal which will change Gereon's life. Together with the murder squad's shorthand typist Charlotte Ritter (Liv Lisa Fries) and his partner Bruno Wolter (Peter Kurth) Rath soon finds himself in a tangle of corruption, drugs and arms dealing which puts him in an existential conflict between loyalty and truth. Who is his friend and who his enemy?
