In the chaos of the Second World War, the young Jewish boy Sally gets separated from his family. His odyssey takes him from Germany via Poland to Russia, where he's picked up by a German patrol. To save himself, Sally claims to be an ethnic German abducted by Russian troops. He's taken in by the soldiers and is soon the teachers' favourite and a model pupil of the Hitlerjugend academy. Hiding his identity, he lives in constant fear of being found out.
