A Swedish family on skiing holiday in the French Alps. An idyllic start, but on the second day an avalanche races towards the tourists as they sit on the terrace of a restaurant. The mother, Ebba, instinctively protects her children, while her husband Tomas grabs his smart phone and runs. Even though a catastrophe doesn't then ensue, the family is thrown into chaos. The question of whether Tomas is a selfish coward or not hangs over everything like a Damoclean sword. He namely has a completely different version of events, but can only watch as his position as father and husband crumbles with each day.
Force Majeure is the tragicomic, fantastically shot and directed portrayal of the dismantling of a man's self-image.
