Los Angeles, 2005. Journalist Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.) is in a crisis. He is suffering from writer’s block and his marriage is in ruins. Then he meets the highly talented street musician Nathaniel Ayers. Lopez finds out that the schizophrenic, homeless cellist was once prophesied a career as a soloist.
