A familiar story, though highly improbable in Iran: young people get together and form a band. Rock music is illegal in Iran, as is the spirit that comes with it. A complicated censoring system has driven the scene underground. And in“No One Knows About Persian Cats” the group of young musicians intends to flee to Europe. The music film, set in the moloch of Teheran, won the Special Jury Prize in Cannes, where it ran in the section “Un Certain Regard”. The director has not returned to Iran since the festival. The scriptwas co-written by US journalist Roxana Saberi.
