Hany Abu-Assad (*1961) is a Palestinian-Dutch director, above all renowned due to his Oscar-nominated film Paradise Now (2004) which was also shown in Hamburg. At this year's Cannes festival, Omar won the jury price in the series Un Certain Regard.

Two Palestinian friends, Khaled and Said, have been chosen to perform a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv. The plan fails however, and they are forced to reschedule. The delay offers them an opportunity to reconsider and the suspense is almost unbearable as they review their positions. Do they have any real alternative? “Paradise Now” is both stifling and courageous.
