Art student Berina lives with her parents and younger sister in Sarajevo. Her mother, a doctor, is dying, having fought for years against breast cancer. With her, the family is losing its centre. Desperate and left in the lurch by her father and immature sister who are unable to cope, Berina is prepared to try anything to save her mother's life, including herbal remedies and witchcraft. At the same time, she is confronted by her own awakening sexuality. When she meets an orthodox Muslim, religion enters her life. But will it fill the vacuum left by her dying mother?
