His descriptions of how animals live and the human characteristics Alfred Brehm gave them enchanted generations of readers. His own life was no less fascinating, but also tragic and full of privation. He contracted malaria on an early expedition, was a failure as the director of Hamburg zoo and suffered many personal setbacks. Narrated by Roger Willemsen and with reenacted scenes and opulent documentary animal footage, this docudrama presents a lively impression of Alfred Brehm's passion for his work as a naturalist and the currency of his legacy.
