After a police operation that went disastrously wrong, Carl Mørck (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) is exiled to Special Dept. Q. He is no longer allowed to investigate new cases, but instead should now tie up old, unsolved ones as quickly and quietly as possible. But only a few day later, Mørck's stubbornness leads him and his assistant (Fares Fares) to the trail of the politician Lynggaard, who years previously mysteriously disappeared while on board a ferry. Against orders, the two policemen plunge into Lynggaard's murky past -- and slowly begin to understand that sometimes evil is just waiting for the right moment to bring terror into someone's life.
