"When I was born," Julie says of herself, "God wasn't paying attention." Yet this God is the only authority she accepts. Julia is an outsider and a non-conformist -- and a prostitute. She sells her body on the streets of Berlin, in stuffy back rooms and on the sticky seats of porn cinemas. For more than 10 years, J. Jackie Baier accompanied the transsexual, who came to Berlin after graduating from art school in Lithuania and speaks an old-fashioned, early 19th century German. Julia is a story about being rootlessness and belonging and the portrait of a woman who sometimes can't find her way home.
