German Critic Awards
22.02.2021

Anna Sofie Hartmann's film Giraffe awarded the German Film Critics' Award in the category "Best Feature Film" 2020 by the Association of German Film Critics. The Danish-German co-production screened at FILMFEST HAMBURG in 2019.

In her debut film, playing in the German-Danish cross-border region, Anna Sofie Hartmann deals with questions of migration, origin and the growing together of Europe. She lets people come together who are at the turns of their lives.

Other critics' awards (Best Screenplay) go to Ulrich Köhler and Henner Winckler for their film A Voluntary Year which also screened at FILMFEST HAMBURG in 2019. Nina Hoss was awarded the German Film Critics' Prize for her acting in the films The Audition and Pelican Blood. Both films screened at FILMFEST HAMBURG in 2019, the year Nina Hoss was honoured with the Douglas Sirk Award.

Since 1956, the German Film Critics' Prize has honoured German films exclusively according to artistic criteria. The award is decided by juries made up of members of the German Film Critics Association.
