In her debut film, playing in the German-Danish cross-border region, Anna Sofie Hartmann deals with questions of migration, origin and the growing together of Europe. She lets people come together who are at the turns of their lives.
Other critics' awards (Best Screenplay) go to Ulrich Köhler and Henner Winckler for their film A Voluntary Year which also screened at FILMFEST HAMBURG in 2019. Nina Hoss was awarded the German Film Critics' Prize for her acting in the films The Audition and Pelican Blood. Both films screened at FILMFEST HAMBURG in 2019, the year Nina Hoss was honoured with the Douglas Sirk Award.
Since 1956, the German Film Critics' Prize has honoured German films exclusively according to artistic criteria. The award is decided by juries made up of members of the German Film Critics Association.
