FILMFEST HAMBURG celebrates free admission day
16. June 2024
FILMFEST HAMBURG (26.9. – 5.10.2024) is offering all Hamburg locals a free cinema festival day on October 3. All films screened at the five festival movie theaters Abaton, Studio-Kino, Metropolis, CinemaxX Dammtor and Passage on that day are free to attend. The nine FILMFEST UMS ECK cinemas Alabama, Koralle Lichtspielhaus, Magazin Filmkunsttheater, 3001, Blankeneser Kino, Hansa Filmstudio Bergedorf, Savoy Filmtheater, Astor Film Lounge and Zeise Kinos will also take part in the event with one film screening each on October 3.
For festival director Malika Rabahallah, this is a dream come true. “On the German Unity Day, we’ll be sitting together in the movie theaters here in Hamburg, laughing and crying together and discussing after the film. And the best thing about it: admission is free. More unity is not possible!”
With this campaign, which is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Media, FILMFEST HAMBURG wants to anchor itself even more firmly in the city’s society during the 10-day festival. The aim is to address people who are not (yet) familiar with the festival, who have rarely or never been to the cinema and whose participation in cultural life is limited for various reasons.
Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media, is delighted about this new offer for the Filmfest Hamburg guests: “The audience can already look forward to a great Filmfest program under the new direction of Malika Rabahallah. With this free offer, we invite everyone to experience the unifying power of cinema on the German Unity Day. This year, FILMFEST HAMBURG will once again show us impressive films on relevant topics that are absolutely worth seeing and discussing together.”
Malika Rabahallah: “We would like to invite the people of Hamburg
´to discover the world of film and our great festival with us. For over 30 years, we have been bringing the latest films and national and international guests to Hamburg. This year, with the support of the Deutsche Fernsehlotterie and others, we want to reach out to communities and go into the city’s neighborhoods. We will provide ticket contingents for October 3 to enable as many people as possible to visit FILMFEST HAMBURG on that day. We would also like to thank the Hapag-Lloyd Foundation, which is providing additional funding to provide German subtitles for the films.”
FILMFEST HAMBURG takes place this year from September 26 to October 5. For ten days, the latest films from all over the world will be screened. The complete programme will be announced on 10 September.
