Closing evening, Award Ceremony & Balance Sheet
11 October 2021
The awards of the 29th FILMFEST HAMBURG were presented during the festive closing event on the evening before the film Paris, 13th District (director: Jacques Audiard) in the presence of the leading actors Makita Samba and Lucie Zhang at CinemaxX Dammtor. In addition to the producer’s awards which were already announced on 8 October, you can find all the other award winners in our overview.
110 films, 392 film festival guests from 32 countries – including Kenneth Branagh, Andrea Arnold, Mathieu Amalric, Ildikó Enyedi, Stefan Ruzowitzky, Rolf Lassgård, Saskia Rosendahl and Birgit Minichmayr – a new edition of the Explorer Conference on the future of cinema, “Filmfest ums Eck” with films in the districts, Q&As in the cinemas, digital film talks and a comprehensive industry programme live and online: FILMFEST HAMBURG was able to inspire audiences and the industry alike despite limited space capacities again this year and draws a positive balance.
24,859 visitors saw the films in the cinemas, which is more than half the number of visitors in 2019 (45,000). With a seating capacity of 50 per cent in each of the five festival cinemas with chessboard placement, the average capacity utilisation of the cinemas was just under 90 per cent. Festival director Albert Wiederspiel: “We are very pleased about this and it proves once again how enthusiastic the Hamburg audience is about cinema, film and festivals and how much everyone longs for live culture. My wish for the anniversary edition of FILMFEST HAMBURG 2022 is a 100 percent festival without space restrictions and without masks, with even more visitors and many guests and parties.”
