Denis Côté // Canada, 2019
Fiction Feature // FF2019
HYBRID A man disappears in the woods: Denis Côté‘s new film is a fascinating, wordless variation on Walden. From the centre to the periphery, away from the city, from the people, from his old life: a man steps outside his life. He wanders the streets till they become paths, always moving on, apparently aimlessly, as the days pass and the story writes itself – until he reaches the loneliness of the forest and bit by bit becomes part of nature. A man without qualities, with a patch on his army jacket the only clue as to his identity: Wilcox.
DirectorDENIS CÔTÉ (*1973) is one of the most interesting directors in Canadian cinema. FILMFEST HAMBURG has shown All That She Wants (2008), Carcasse (2009), Curling (2010), Bestiaire (2012) and A Skin So Soft (2017).
