This impressive animated drama about a painful attempt at self-realization was realized entirely in ink on paper. Quebec in the summer of 1995. Joseph is determined to stop drinking and relocates to a friend’s house on the bleak coast of Gaspésie. He manages to persuade his wife to join him. At the same time, a plebiscite on independence for Quebec is being held. As houses burn and one fiery speech follows another, the couple grow closer again, reigniting both the love and the pain.

FÉLIX DUFOUR-LAPERRIÈRE (*1981) is a director and screenplay author. His work is always exploring new paths, both in terms of style and content. In 2015, FILMFEST HAMBURG showed his essay Transatlantic. Ville Neuve is his first animated feature film.
