Story

“Black and white underlines the simplicity of my story,” states the world-famous photographer and film-maker, Raymond Depardon. Loosely based on a novel by Diego Brosset, Depardon’s film takes us to the Sahara desert and its nomad inhabitants. The young orphan, Alifa (Ali Hamit) is raised by hunters and grows to become a leading member of his tribe. Fleeing from colonial forces, the nomads retreat to a part of the desert that will not only protect them, but also bring death to the white man. Alifa knows, “The desert does not need the West”. A film of breathtaking beauty, like an echo from another world.
