Story
A cameraman wangles himself a lucrative assignment: documenting the lives of the Inuit communities in Nunavik province for the Canadian government. Full of enthusiasm, he starts work and captures this to him alien culture in vibrant footage. But in phone calls to the relevant minister it becomes increasingly clear that his material is destined to serve a very different purpose: forced resettlement – it is planned to replace the village with a gigantic mining complex. In magical pictures, Tuktuq is a poetic portrait of the Inuit culture of Northern Canada and at the same time a biting commentary on the government’s real intentions for this region.
