Story
How do you transform a dance performance of layered movements and time shifts into a kind of loose literary adaptation for the cinema? This question lies at the heart of Patric Chiha‘s film. He condenses rehearsals and performances of an ensemble tour of Crowd, a dance piece by Gisèle Vienne about the 90s rave scene, to an intense filmic experience. Stage footage is intercut with intimate moments with the dancers backstage. »To see the dust rise from his cloth when he moves«, is how one of the dancers describes the hypersensitive emotional world of his danced character in relation to another. The space between their roles in the piece and their own experiences of desire and longing increasingly disappears. With the help of the precisely selected techno tracks, the situation, suspended, and the oscillation between collective rush and individual fall create an intense filmic undertow similar to a trancelike experience in a club.https://dokfilmwoche.com/de/project/if-it-were-love/
