Story
A piercing Iranian social drama in which a single mother is faced with an impossible choice. The screenplay is by Mohammad Rasoulof. Leila is an Iranian directly affected by the sanctions. The widow only manages with difficulty to keep herself, her infant child and her 12-year old son Amir above water. When Kazem, the bus driver at the factory where she works, proposes to her, Leila sees a possible escape from her economic hardship. But Kazem has a daughter of Amir‘s age. The social code forbids both children living together in the same house. Leila has to make a decision that can only produce losers.

MAHNAZ MOHAMMADI (*1975) is one of Iran’s best-known women’s rights activists and film-makers and has been jailed several times for her political involvement. Son-Mother is her debut feature.Trailer
